Communication
- My Mastodon instance of choice. Great community with lots of tech/FOSS talk. If you haven't heard of
Mastodon it's basically Twitter but for real people.
- The future of messaging IMO. Encrypted and decentralized.
- Another excellent option for secure, decentralized messaging using the tried and tested XMPP protocol.
Much lighter and easier to host than matrix.
- A simple blogging platform where all you need is markdown and ssh. There's a good chance I'd be using
this if it was around when I started this site.
- A fast, minimalist blogging platform.
Tools
- "an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites
you perhaps
weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed." Also has a random
browse feature!
- A list of services and apps which can be selfhosted. Take back control of your digital life.
- "reduce the file size of an imageā¦ but in a stylish old-school way."
- Easily host Google fonts locally so visitors to your site don't also have to hit a Google server.
Boredom Killers
- "a non-linear science fiction story told through a desktop environment."
- Abstract three.js sketches.
- Fly around levels from all kinds of video games.
